Police in Hickory, North Carolina, have found missing 10-year-old Australian born Zahra Baker’s prosthetic leg secreted in a house where her stepmom used to live. Zahra, who wore hearing aids and the prosthetic leg as the result of a bout with cancer, was reported missing on October 9th, according to police. Police say they now believe the child is dead and say the girl’s American stepmother is cooperating with them.

The petite, brown-haired girl with freckles and a shy smile has not been seen for weeks. Police came into the investigation when her father, an Australian who met his North Carolina wife online, reported her missing. The couple claimed to have found a ransom note in connection with the disappearance.
